In order to develop a new urban area, the Government of Ontario required our client, a local municipality, to complete a Conceptual Master Plan guided by the Government’s Official Plan. Our client’s Conceptual Master Plan was required to provide an understanding of the water resources and natural heritage system function and was used to develop Secondary and Master Environmental Servicing Plans.
Canmore Cougar Creek Debris Flood Retention
Heavy rains in the Bow Valley in 2013 caused a debris flood on Cougar Creek that resulted in widespread damage to municipal infrastructure, homes, property, businesses, the Trans-Canada Highway, Highway 1A, and the Canadian Pacific Railway. The Town of Canmore invested significant time and effort in evaluating different mitigation options and, as a result, proposed the construction of a debris flood retention structure.
