Matrix Solutions Inc., a Montrose Environmental Company, has been awarded a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Synergy award for an innovative partnership led by Dr. Beth Parker, Director of the Morwick G360 Groundwater Research Institute at the University of Guelph.
The City of Guelph, Ontario is one of the largest cities in Canada that relies almost exclusively on groundwater for its drinking water. The goal of the partnership—which also includes the City and WSP—is to protect that drinking water now and into the future.
For more than 15 years, dozens of Matrix employees have contributed expertise in advanced modelling techniques to help the City understand water quantity and water quality risks and develop adaptive groundwater protection plans. Advancements and best practices developed through this partnership are being put into practice in other groundwater-reliant municipalities – contributing to the protection of drinking water in Canada and beyond.
“The varied experience and ideas brought forward through this collaboration have driven innovation and ultimately, better solutions to protect our water resource and natural systems,” said Daron Abbey, Practice Lead for Geosciences at Matrix.
“This honour is an opportunity for our teams to celebrate their long-term contribution to managing water resources for our communities and building tools and workflows to better manage these sites now and for generations to come.”
